A majority, not a plurality, should decide our government.
Of all the petitions submitted to Parliament over the past four years, none garnered more signatures than NDP MP Nathan Cullen’s electoral reform petition. Canadians deserve a fair voting system where every vote counts. That’s why Alistair and the NDP have a plan to:
- Hold a national referendum on electoral reform after two elections under new system.
- Introduce a proportional representation system where 39% of the popular vote garners 39% of the seats in Parliament – not a majority government.
- Encourage voter participation by amending the Canada Elections Act to extend voting hours on polling day. (Bill C-297)
- Amend the Canada Elections Act to lower the voting age from 18 to 16. (Bill C-213)
